Everyone can practice yoga at home - it is important to listen to your body and only do what feels safe and comfortable to you.
It seems that everyone has heard of yoga these days and knows the benefits can be wonderful. The response I hear most often when I say I teach yoga is "Oh, I'd love to try yoga, I know it would be good for me but..."
It is definitely preferrable to take yoga from an experienced teacher, either in a private or group setting but I am fully aware of how challenging that can be. For the first 7 years of my own yoga practice I used primarily videos in my home and learned something each time even though I only had 3!!
Here are several suggestions that will enhance your at-home yoga practice:
- Make the time special by changing into your "yoga" clothes, rolling out your mat and clearing a small space for yourself.
- Limit as many distractions as you can - turn off the phone/computer and, if you have small children, create a special activity they can engage in only when you do yoga in an adjacent space.
- Take the time to finish each session with Savasana (no matter how brief)
There are several practices available on this site for you to choose from, you are welcome to download, print out and use any of them as you wish. If you choose to share the with others, please pass along my name and website info.
